After a year of intense campaigning, Donald Trump has won the Presidency in a “decisive victory”, claiming a majority in the Senate and likely control in the House of Representatives. Kamala Harris, the Democrat’s presidential nominee, has conceded defeat – with her left-wing campaign team “jarred” by the magnitude of Trump’s victory. Michelle Pearse, CEO of the Australian Christian Lobby (ACL), commented, “Trump’s victory is a clear sign that Americans have rejected woke ideology, political correctness, and government overreach” “Harris tried to capitalise on her extreme pro-abortion legacy to win the votes of Americans – but clearly, she misread the American sentiment” After suddenly taking up the role of presidential nominee in August, Harris centred in her campaign on one issue more than any other: abortion.
Harris voiced strong support for federal protections for “abortion rights” in response to the Dobbs decision, which overturned Roe v Wade in 2022 and has enabled 14 States to scale back abortion laws. Pearse said, “As California’s Attorney General, as a Senator, and as a Vice President, Harris has consistently opposed pro-life reforms and sought to advance extreme ideologies like gender fluidity.” “Americans have grown weary of the top-down push for ‘wokeness’ and forced ideological agenda. They have said enough is enough” Pearse expressed hope that Australia would take note, “There is a clear message here – people are tired of divisive ideologies and want to return to common-sense politics” “The reach of the anti-life, pro-abortion movement is also not as vast as it claims to be.” Pearse said.
