ANNOUNCING THE CLOSURE OF THE NATIONAL 24-HOUR PRAYER WATCH

The end of this year marks 25 years that the Australian Prayer Network has coordinated the National 24-Hour Prayer Watch in our nation. That represents 219,000 continuous hours of prayer by thousands of Intercessors who have committed to pray at least one hour a week for our nation. What a commitment and what an achievement. Well done to each and every one of you who have been part of that achievement and thank you on behalf of a grateful nation. During that time our nation has passed through many crises and successes but still today we remain one of the most multi-cultural nations with an enviable record of peaceful co-existence when compared with most other nations.

God works in seasons, and we have over the past 25 years passed through many seasons of change as God has directed our path. We sense it is again a changing season that will open a new future for Australia and the world under God’s mighty hand. God has been speaking to us throughout this year of it being time to lay down the past so that He can raise up the future. That is not easy when you cannot see clearly what the future looks like nor in whose hands the Lord will place responsibility for that future in prayer. However, we remain convinced that God has spoken, so again we rest on what God has always called us to do, be Radically Obedient.

The final Prayer Watch bulletin will therefore be published on 19th December. It will continue in its current form until that time.  Preparing the bulletin each week has been a time-consuming and challenging exercise, and we also want to thank the Intercessors who over the past 25 years have assisted in researching and preparing the bulletin each week.  Their commitment over such a long period of time has been amazing.  It is not easy to let go of something that has been such a part of our life over the past 25 years however we must remind ourselves that whilst we let go and pass on, God Himself remains the constant who never changes. Whilst there may be a time of inactivity in prayer, we know that God will call others to implement His plans for the future, both through prayer and also in the life of our nation, and in Him we place our trust.

Thank you to everyone reading this, for your commitment, perseverance, and tenacity in tackling the big issues that we have faced as a nation and coming out on top. We wish you every blessing in Christ in whatever endeavour the Lord opens up for you into the future.

Every blessing in Christ,

Brian Pickering
