National 24-Hour Prayer Watch 42/24 24th October 2024

This is an abridged Prayer Watch bulletin as a result of our editorial staff undertaking a ministry commitment this week. The full bulletin will resume next week.

This week please pray for the following.

*    The exposure of widespread bullying and sexual harassment within Channel 9 has highlighted a problem that is not confined to that company. Let us pray that the public exposure of this unacceptable behaviour will result in necessary action against the perpetrators but also act as a warning to the management of other businesses of what they need to do to ensure such actions are not allowed to happen within their own companies thus resulting in a widespread improvement in working conditions for women in workplaces across the nation.

*     Australia’s safe limits for cancer-linked “forever chemicals” in drinking water will be dramatically lowered under a proposal that is likely to force the clean-up of tap water supplied to hundreds of thousands of people across the country. The new thresholds, to be announced by the National Health and Medical Research Council, would slash allowable levels of three different kinds of per- and polyfluoroalkyl chemicals (PFAS) in tap water and introduce limits for the first time on a fourth chemical. Pray that God would guide the authorities to make the right decisions in order to ensure our drinking water is the safest in the world.

*      A Labor-sparked review into Australia’s rape laws has praised a national shift towards affirmative consent models that require less “scrutiny” of complainants in courts, in order to see greater prosecutions of nuanced sexual violence cases. Critics are concerned that the changes may result in a lowering of the bar in relation to establishing proof of sexual assault in the court room. Whilst it is so important to address the issue of sexual and domestic violence in our nation it is also important to protect those who may be wrongfully accused for any reason. Please pray that our legislators will get this finally balanced issue right so that guilty parties will be caught and punished but innocent parties will not be caught up in a well-meaning but dangerous attitude of always believing the alleged victim but not having to prove the accusation beyond reasonable doubt.
