Months after former Victorian Premier, Dan Andrews, sensationally forfeited the 2026 Commonwealth Games citing cost blowout, making Victoria an international laughing stock, his replacement, Jacinta Allan, is bidding for Victoria to host the 2030 Gay Games. Australian Christian Lobby’s (ACL) Victorian Director, Jasmine Yuen, said, “Victorians are already doing it tough dealing with the increasing cost of living and high interest rates, plus forking out for extra taxes resulting from the government’s Covid lockdown debt. If the State couldn’t afford the Commonwealth Games, how can they now afford the Gay Games? “What Victorians expect of their government is for them to work on solving the high tax rate, high energy cost and high crime rate for a start. This is uppermost in the agenda for families, not for their State to be hosting a Gay Games.” The ACL urges the Allan Government to realign its priorities, abandon the plan to host the Gay Games and put the needs of families first.
