The focus of the Australian Christian Lobby’s (ACL) Victorian election campaign was on pro-life parties with policies that protect children from gender indoctrination. Through promotions which included full page advertisements in each of The Herald Sun and The Age in the two weeks before the election, our values-based campaign highlighted the good policies of Labour DLP and Family First. It is pleasing, then, to see that Family First preferences are electing a Labour DLP candidate in the Northern Metropolitan region, displacing the Reason Party’s Fiona Patten. The exit of the Reason Party (formerly the Sex Party) from the Victorian Parliament is good news as they have been responsible for introducing legislation which harms the most vulnerable Victorians.
Working hand in hand with the ALP government over the last two terms of Parliament, Fiona Patten of the Reason Party introduced legislation such as euthanasia, no speech zones around abortion clinics and the decriminalising of prostitution in Victoria. The taxation of churches and the decriminalisation of drugs of addiction was also on the Reason Party’s anti-Christian legislative agenda. It is good to see that nexus broken.
