Celebrating National Marriage Week

In a world where values and traditions often seem to be shifting, marriage remains a foundation of stability for Christians. Marriage Week Australia, which runs from the 8-14 September, is an opportunity for couples to invest in, honour and pray for their marriages. Marriage is a divine institution, and the Bible tells us in Genesis 2:24, therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. This passage highlights the unity of marriage and its importance in God’s plan for humanity. Just as Jesus sacrificially loves and leads the Church, husbands are called to love and lead their wives, and wives are called to respect and support their husbands. Marriage is a partnership, a covenant relationship through which God’s love and grace can flow. Marriage Week serves as a reminder of the need to invest time and effort into our relationships. It encourages couples to prioritise their marriage and take the steps needed to strengthen it. A strong, healthy marriage not only benefits couples, but also reflects God’s love to the world.

Marriage Week isn’t just for those who are currently married. It’s an opportunity to inspire young people to embrace the concept of Christian marriage. Marriage Week allows us to share the beauty of God’s design for marriage with the next generation. As parents, mentors and leaders, we can help young people build strong, Christ-centred relationships that will stand the test of time. Marriage is a sacred covenant that reflects God’s love for His people. By investing in our marriages this Marriage Week, we not only enrich our own lives but also the lives of those around us. Together we can reclaim the sanctity of marriage.
