The push to introduce all-gender toilets across Australia is gaining momentum, but this is not a done deal. There is still time to act and with enough public pressure this can be stopped. New building rules under the National Construction Code 2025 are currently being ratified and implemented by State Governments. These changes allow developers to replace up to half of required male and female toilets with all-gender facilities in public buildings including schools, shopping centres and sporting venues. While described as voluntary, these changes will not be optional for the people who must use them. Do people really care about this issue? The data is clear, they do. A recent poll of 1,500 NSW adults, showed overwhelming support for maintaining separate facilities. 87.73% prefer separate male and female bathrooms. Among those who preferred separate spaces, the key concerns were privacy, safety and cleanliness. This reflects a strong and consistent expectation that public spaces should protect dignity and provide clear boundaries.
These results reflect widespread community concern. Women and girls deserve safe, private spaces in public buildings. Reducing single-sex facilities risks their dignity, safety and participation in everyday life. Beyond the practical impacts, this debate reflects a deeper question about truth and how society orders itself. Scripture warns, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness” (Isaiah 5:20). These changes are presented as inclusive and good, yet they elevate what we know to be an evil agenda of gender ideology over the biological reality of sex. When clear distinctions are blurred, confusion follows. Policies that disregard these realities risk unintended harm, particularly for women and children. The Australian Christian Lobby is calling on all State Governments to reject these changes and ensure that public facilities continue to protect privacy, safety and dignity for all.
