Federal Health Minister Mark Butler refuses to read the room and has doubled down on gaslighting female athletes. He told Sky News that males in female sport is “not an issue in Australia.” He claims the “very clear provisions” in the Sex Discrimination Act allow sporting codes to exclude males from women’s sport on the basis of “strength, speed and stamina” where that is an issue. What he failed to mention was that very few sporting codes take up that option because they have been threatened with lawfare if they do. Most sporting organisations are community run clubs that simply do not have the funding or resources to take on the legal giants in this space. Last year the Flying Bats had up to five males at a time on the field in the North West Sydney Women’s Premier League (soccer). They smashed the entire competition coming out undefeated premiers and a male winning the golden boot. Females who opposed the policy were threatened with suspension, expulsion and legal action if they spoke out.
Clubs have also been forced to sign documents stating they comply with the policy that allows males to participate in the female competition. The government have refused calls to help the code sort the mess out. It is apparently illegal to discriminate on “sex, gender identity” among other things. The problem is that sex and gender identity are diametrically opposed and cannot coexist. Sex relies on biological reality. Gender identity rejects biological reality. So far, the gender activists are winning with their threats and intimidation tactics to silence female athletes, parents, coaches and officials. Only the government can intervene to correct this horrid situation that only leaves two unacceptable options for female athletes – to self-exclude or shut up and risk injury, an unfair playing field and a lack of dignity in the changerooms. Binary is embroiled in multiple legal proceedings for daring to be a voice for these voiceless athletes. This will be an election issue regardless of whether or not the major parties want it to be. Now is our time to shine, and we will do so brightly.
