PRAYER FOR AFGHANISTAN

Taliban Islamic radicals are taking over more and more cities in the country and hunting down believers in Christ from the thousands there who have come to faith in the last 20 plus years. Some have already been killed by them. The Taliban are continuing to make advances with additional cities falling under their control almost daily. They are now on the outskirts of Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. It is very difficult to counter them since their guerilla way of fighting is unconventional. They enter into houses and ambush the Afghan army. They pop up like mushrooms all over the place with their motorbikes, by foot, in pick – ups, etc. Only the US Air Force kept this from happening before.

Since the US Army is leaving, theĀ  bombing raids on Taliban’s positions have almost stopped. No army can win on the ground against the Taliban unless they have massive air support.” Thousands are trying to exit the country to safer areas now. Local Christians are asking desperately for prayer that the Afghan government and army will have God’s strategy to fight back in unity and effectiveness and for the humanitarian teams trying to help get families out of danger will succeed in their mission. Pray too for the 3000 U.S. troops that are going back into the country to rescue expats and those Afghans who have supported allied troops in the past.

Please join us in urgent prayer for the following:

  1. For the safety of our brothers and sisters in Christ who are trying to flee to safer areas of the country or to surrounding countries like Pakistan and India. Pray too that the governments in surrounding nations will show them compassion and favour, allowing them to enter and seek refuge without hindrance.
  1. For abundant financial provision for those Christian organizations and mission people trying to assist them.
  1. That the Afghan government and military will be able to stand unitedly and push back courageously and effectively against the Taliban and that even at this late stage the US and NATO governments would recommit to the defence of this strategically significant nation from which Al Qaeda launched the 9/11 attacks 20 years ago.
