CORRUPTION, HYPERINFLATION, AND HUNGER PLAGUE TURKMENISTAN’S POPULATION

The collapse of the Soviet Union did not free the people of Turkmenistan from tyranny.  The country still remains under the authoritarian rule of current president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow  which has enriched the privileged few while the masses are hungry.  Long lines queue up for scarce food. Turkmenistan has been blessed with oil and gas reserves, but the rich are only getting richer while the poor are experiencing hyperinflation and are threatened with starvation.  Second only to North Korea, Turkmenistan is a dangerous place for journalists, and its human rights abuses are among the worst in the world.  Forced labour conscripts many to work in its cotton fields.

Turkmenistan is facing an escalating economic crises due to mismanagement of its hydrocarbon reserves.  Human Rights Watch (HRW) says “The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development should not expand its lending in Turkmenistan until the government shows concrete progress in improving the humanitarian situation.”  Islam is the predominant religion in Turkmenistan with very few professing Christian Believers.  This country need’s God’s intervention.  The nation of Turkmenistan is number 23 on the 2019 Open Doors World Watch List of the worst persecutors of Christians in the world.
